4 ways to make your days feel longer during Autumn & Winter
There are many things we love about Autumn; the colour change in the leaves, chunky boots, knitwear and open fires. Root vegetable stews, fresh dewy mornings and drawn-out afternoons with a great book. But one thing we don’t love is the shorter days. Here at The Muses, we like to make the absolute most out of our time, soaking up as much as we can before the sun dips below the horizon.
That’s why, this year, we’re embracing the changes in a way that serves us, unforced, so that we can continue to live our days out in balance, joy, and fulfilment. And we’ve put together out top tips to help you do the same.
Use a SAD lamp
A SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) lamp in the morning brings an extra dose of natural sunlight, even on the darkest of days. By stimulating the effects of sunlight, these lamps adjust your circadian rhythm (your natural sleep/wake cycle) and nudge the brain to release more serotonin, AKA the happy hormone. Set yours* to glow first thing and enjoy your morning routine, as usual, feeling your best.
*If you have any medical conditions, seek GP advice before using a SAD lamp.
Spend lunchtime outdoors
Whether you’re still WFH or you’re back to office life, instead of waiting until after work to get those steps in, move your lunch break outside during your downtime to make the most of the limited light.
Just 20 minutes outdoors has been proven to increase happiness, lower stress, and improve overall health -- which will make the longer evenings much easier to bear.
Fragrance zone your day
We’re passionate about Fragrance Zoning. It’s a powerful tool at your disposal that you can use to shift the mood and feel of your day, whatever time of year.
Instead of relying on the sun to tell you when to do things (just us?!), fragrance can signal to the mind that there’s a change in pace needed, too. Take our TONIC candle, for example. Its unique blend of citrus, sharp and sparkling scents makes it spirited and uplifting, perfect for when you need a boost as the evening sets in.
Embrace the evening
Yes! When the colder months come, the best thing to do to get the most enjoyment from each day is to embrace the changes that come with it. Film night anyone?
Cooler nights mean cosy blankets, hot drinks and plenty of time to socialise with friends and loved ones. Why not set a date and get your nearest over to enjoy movies and popcorn? The perfect autumnal activities, we’d say!
